C12

Pre-investment visa

C12 exists for the stretch between deciding to look and deciding to invest. You are surveying sites, running numbers, meeting partners and finding out whether the project is real — none of which is tourism, and none of which is yet a business you own here.

Stay
60 or 180 days
Extension
Up to 12 months
Index
C12

What it covers

  • Site surveys, location scouting and field research
  • Feasibility studies and due diligence on a project
  • Meetings with prospective partners, notaries and consultants
  • A stay of 60 or 180 days, extendable up to 12 months

Where it stops

  • No selling, no invoicing and no revenue from inside Indonesia
  • No salary, local or foreign, drawn for work performed here
  • Single entry — it does not survive a flight out
  • Preparation only: once the company is founded, the permit changes

Questions people ask

Do I need a company in Indonesia to apply?
No — that is the point of it. C12 is for the phase before the company exists. Once you have founded a PT PMA and hold shares in it, the permit changes to one built for shareholders, and that is a separate application.
How is C12 different from a business visa?
C2 is for business conducted on behalf of a company abroad. C12 is for investigating an investment you intend to make here, and it stretches considerably further — up to a year against C2's six months.
What if the project needs me to fly in and out?
Then D12 is the version to file: the same pre-investment work, multiple entry, with 180 days available on each arrival and a visa valid one to two years.
